Remembrance Day Newsletter – LesT We Forget

The Museum will be open on November 11 for Remembrance Day 10AM to 2PM.

The Press Gallery is proud to support The Loyal Edmonton Regiment Museum, which is located in the Prince of Wales Armouries. We have successfully restored and maintained the Museum's uniforms, which date back to the First World War.

The Loyal Edmonton Regiment has a rich and proud history dating back to 1908; the regiment's all volunteer ranks have been predominantly from Edmonton and surrounding area. The regiment's war service began in 1915 as the 49th Battalion (Edmonton Regiment), raised by Major-General William Griesbach, a veteran of the Boer War and a former Mayor of Edmonton, to serve in the fields of France as part of the Canadian Expeditionary Force.

Returning to active service in the Second World War, the troops of what was then called The Loyal Edmonton Regiment formed part of the liberation of Italy, including being the principal regiment in the famous Battle of Ortona.

Since 1945 The Loyal Edmonton Regiment has contributed troops to many peace keeping missions around the globe, and to Canada's current mission in Afghanistan.

The Loyal Edmonton Regiment has 40 Battle Honours, and two members have received the Victoria Cross - the highest award for bravery bestowed on individuals in the Commonwealth.

The Loyal Edmonton Regiment also served, most recently, in Afghanistan.

The Press Gallery is proud to support our military community.

The Loyal Edmonton Regiment will be on parade for Remembrance Day at the City Hall Cenotaph, starting at 10:30AM.
